Tamil Nadu
• Mahabalipuram: 7th century city on the Bay of Bengal, sublime rock-cut art
• Kanchipuram: “Golden City of a Thousand Temples,” one of seven sacred cities in India
Thanjavur and Chidambaram Architectural splendors honoring Shiva with rich temple traditions of worship and ceremony
• Madurai: Enormous temple devoted to goddess Meenakshi sculpted top to bottom

Pondicherry
Former French colony, settled in the 18th century, home of Sri Aurobindo ashram
• Auroville: An experiment in human unity and sustainable resources

Kerala:
• Munnar with its cool climate and lush landscapes, sample teas at regional plantation
• Periyar: Boat safaris around lake in animal preserve, home to wild elephants, sloth bears, and monkeys
• Kumarakom: Cruise through tranquil backwaters with emerald green paddy fields
• Kochi: Shop in the aromatic spice market, witness the renowned Chinese fishing nets and enjoy an Ayurvedic massage

The trip is led by CIIS Dean of Alumni and Travel Richard Buggs, frequent traveler to India. Richard’s caring sensitivity, attention to detail, and passion for India have made his previous six trips an unforgettable experience. He will host an orientation meeting in early October where you’ll have the opportunity to meet other members of the travel group and learn more about the destinations.

Integral education consultant Rohini Verma will lead evening discussion groups exploring the field of integral education based on the principles of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.As the daughter of a diplomat, she grew up in multiple countries, while spending summer holidays at the Sri Aurobindo ashram with her grandparents.
